Bishop To Visit

St John’s This Weekend

St John’s Episcopal Church announces that the Right Reverend Laura J. Ahrens, Bishop Suffragan of the Episcopal Archdiocese of Connecticut, will be visiting St John’s on Sunday, April 18, to celebrate the Eucharist and meet parishioners. Services begin at 9:30 am and will be immediately followed by a reception and meeting, to which all are also welcome.

The visit comes at a time of renewal for St John’s, located at 5 Washington Avenue in Sandy Hook Center. During the past year the Vestry and parishioners have been hard at work revitalizing worship and community at the church. This includes the traditional worship that has been a hallmark of St John’s, as well as new events. During the past year the highly popular Donut Drive returned for two appearances, and will return again on Saturday, May 29, in conjunction with the 10th Annual Great Pootatuck Duck Race.

“I look forward to sharing our story of renewal with Bishop Ahrens,” said Bruce Moulthrop, senior warden of the vestry. “The energy and commitment that our community has exhibited during the past 18 months has been very exciting.”

“This past year we have expanded our worship services and deepened our connection with each other and the community that we serve,” said the Reverend Mark Moore. “Most encouraging are the new faces we’ve seen at our Sunday service.”

St John’s Episcopal Church was established in 1868. It is a small, traditional, catholic worshipping community. Worship service is at 9:30 am each Sunday.

St John’s welcomes new members, visitors, and any who are interested in a small catholic community. The church office can be reached at 203-426-9938.
