The Brookfield Ironworks District

BROOKFIELD CENTER — On Sunday, April 20, the Brookfield Museum & Historical Society will host a lecture and visual presentation, “The History of the Brookfield Ironworks District,” by regional historian William Devlin.

The presentation will cover the history and architecture of Brookfield’s famed Ironworks District and will be highlighted by rare photos of the area when it served as the industrial center of the community.

The program will be at Brookfield Library, 182 Whisconier Road (Route 25) in Brookfield Center. It will begin at 2 pm, admission is free, and complimentary refreshments will be served.

Mr Devlin, a New Milford resident, was raised in Brookfield. He is a history teacher at Darien High School, and is currently co-authoring a work on the history of 20th Century Danbury. In the past he has authored a historical and architectural dissertation on the Ironworks District.

In addition, he has served as a director of historic and architectural resources surveys, preparing nominations to the National Register of Historic Places with the purpose of preserving various buildings and districts in towns such as Danbury, Torrington, Shelton and New Milford.
