Barn Picture Interest Continues
The March 23 Way We Were photo of the old Beardsley barn on Bennetts Road continues to pique the interest of readers. Joseph Kearns of New Hampshire was in town the week of April 9 and stopped by The Bee to contribute some information about the photo. According to Mr Kearns, his grandparents, John and Florence Kearns, purchased the Bennetts Bridge property from Charles Beardsley in 1936. John Kearns and his sons farmed there until John Kearnsâ untimely death in 1948. The eight Kearns sons and their mother then cared for the farm. The house that is seen in the background of the picture published March 23, said Mr Kearns, was built by George Winton and still stands on the farm, now owned by Thomas Kearns. The barn, however, burned to the ground in 1941. Because so many men were called away to war at that time, it took more than three years before the present barn was rebuilt.
