Occupation: I’m a teacher at Quinnipiac University in Hamden. I teach anatomy in the physical therapy program.

Family: My husband, Jeff, and three children, Hank, who is 13, Charlie, 11, and Lucy, 8.

Pets: Oh, yes. We have two dogs, both mutts, Mia and Conroy. Mia was adopted from Bridgeport Pound and we rescued Conroy from a bad home situation a couple of years ago. We also have seven cats, Midnight, Phantom, Rebel, Jeannie, Doo, Ruby, and Fat Albert. And maybe more on the way. My son has a bearded dragon lizard named Vertigo. We have various, unnamed fish, too.

How long have you lived in Newtown? For 15 years. We moved here from Bethel. We were only there for a little bit.

What do you like to do in your free time? I do sports activities with my kids. I go to a lot of soccer games. I teach Lebed classes, one in Norwalk and one in Hamden. It’s an exercise/dance class for breast cancer survivors. I like to read and I like to cook.

Do you have a favorite cookbook? I think my favorite cookbook right now is Chocolate Therapy by Kathy Farrell-Kingsley, a local cookbook author. We actually used it as a fundraiser at the Relay For Life last year. I give it as a present all the time. It’s just great.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? I love to go to the Cape, up where it is not so crowded. Or any really nice beach.

If you could time travel, would you go to the future or the past? If I didn’t have to stay there, I’d probably go to the past, maybe the late 1800s. There was less technology. I don’t view technology as bad, but things were simpler then.

What is the best thing about Newtown? I love my friends in Newtown. I happen to have very helpful, compassionate, and considerate friends. I like the space in Newtown, too. I grew up in Bridgeport, so I like the openness. There are woods behind my house that my kids can play in and we can walk through them to Ferris Farm. I love the farms in Newtown, especially Ferris and its ice cream, and the Paproski farm. We love the corn maze and the pumpkins there.

Do you have a personal philosophy? Kindness matters. Somebody did a needlepoint of that saying for me and I have it in my kitchen.

What is the most important lesson you have learned? That failing is actually okay. I used to be a scientist, so I had many, many failures. One in every one hundred experiments works. People are afraid to fail, but you learn so much. Achievement is not all it’s built up to be.
