Our Resources Are Not Unlimited
Our Resources Are Not Unlimited
To the Editor:
The proposed 5.7 percent increase to the town budget represents two times the inflation rate. What this means to a Newtown homeowner is less money to spend as the town takes a bigger share of their personal âeconomic pie.â
There is no argument that most budget items are admirable. If unlimited resources were available, the budget could easily double or triple with unlimited worthwhile items. The problem occurs when there are limited resources with unlimited demands. Property owners have a fixed amount of income to spend. As the town takes more for the budget, there is less for them. The voters have to ask themselves who will make better use of the extra dollars required by the budget proposal. If the answer is the homeowner, then vote No. Keep rejecting the budget until spending is brought under control.
