Put Play In Your Day At YMCA

BROOKFIELD — The Greenknoll branch of the Regional YMCA of Western Connecticut will join more than 1,500 YMCAs nationwide in the 16th YMCA Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 14. An opportunity for kids and families to “Put Play in Your Day,” this special event uses fun, engaging, and creative activities to encourage children and families to adopt behaviors that support a healthy lifestyle.

YMCA Healthy Kids Day is part of YMCA Activate America, a national initiative designed to help children and adults discover and sustain healthier ways to live.

The cost is $2 for YMCA member children and $5 for nonmember children; adults are free.

Planned activities include a giant obstacle course, a hula hoop contest, open pool, kids’ aerobics, and a limbo contest. Events will run from 1 to 4 pm.

Healthy Kids Day was created because unhealthy eating and physical inactivity are associated with an increased risk of a number of chronic health conditions, including heart disease, stroke, diabetes, some cancers, as well as being overweight or obese. In fact, the percentage of young people who are overweight has tripled over the last 25 years.

For more than 150 years, YMCAs have developed initiatives and programs that have helped improved the physical, social, emotional and spiritual health for millions of Americans in diverse communities across the country.

Greenknoll YMCA is at 2 Huckleberry Hill Road; call 775-4444 for additional information.
