Tooting The Horn
Tooting The Horn
To the Editor:
What is going on is beyond belief? Dr Donald Evans is a wonderful citizen, a wonderful human being, and a wonderful doctor. He is being harassed for helping patients in distress? Patient pretenders who we find out were undercover agents posing as patients in pain. Now what doctor has been trained to know who is lying about having pain? Who is an imposter and who isnât? None of them, I am sure. Doctors have to believe our pain. And treat it. Now Dr Evans is being persecuted for just that.
I read the articles in the papers and only see that he gave drugs to individuals for their own use. Does that sound like drug dealing? Drug dealers are not trying to help people, just make money. Clearly Dr Evans was not doing this for money. His patient charges were in line with what other doctors charge for their time. In fact, far less in most cases, as Dr Evans, unlike other doctors treats everyone, even the poor. This compassion is whatâs gotten him into trouble.
Dr Evans has the finest character I know. He has helped not only the poor, but the elderly, people with AIDS. In fact he was an early leader and still is in the care and treatment of AIDS victims. The agency he founded, AIDS Project Greater Danbury, treats victims in the many towns around Danbury, including Newtown, alleviating those towns from the expense. His work has saved these cities from should be supported and he should be being honored, not harassed.
His kindness and generosity are legendary. At one fundraiser where art was sold, Dr Evans found out which artists hadnât sold anything and bought an item from each one. Another time he paid for the bathroom for a womanâs child, paid for a vacation for another in financial trouble. Much more that I donât know about because Dr Evans does not toot his own horn.
It would be a shame if Dr Evans truly gives up practicing. Because he is a great doctor. He diagnosed and treated a severe eye infection for me when four other doctors failed.
If you have been helped by Dr Evans, send in your story. Itâs time to toot the horn for Dr Evans.
