Another Fine Mess
Another Fine Mess
To the Editor:
The lawsuit filed against the town by the owner-operators reminds me of the Laurel and Hardy movies. When things got out of focus in the antics of those two bumbling characters it was common to hear Oliver say, âThis is a fine mess youâve gotten us into.â
That is exactly what the previous Board of Education (a/k/a Board of Idiots) and the school administration have done in the matter of the previous transportation contract.
Here we are in difficult economic times, ready to send our money to a company based in another town and county. Here we find ourselves with local business owners forced to bring suit against the town that is their customer and the beneficiary of their tax dollars. Does that make sense to you?
If this contract is upheld, we will find our selves with people driving our kids (my grandkids) to school that arenât town residents and donât know the roads. People who arenât vested in the community. Does that make sense to you?
Add to that the fact that it appears that the bids submitted last year were altered based on assumptions that may or may not be valid. Yet the Board of Idiots ran like lemmings to award a contract? Does that make sense to you?
Now the taxpayers of Newtown must foot the bill to defend these actions in court despite overwhelming public opinion to the contrary. Does that make sense to you?
Hopefully, the court will look at the evidence and make a decision that sets this contract aside and opens the bid process once again.
This is a fine mess weâve gotten into.
