Helping FAITH Reach Its Quota

Each March during Quota Cares Month, members of Quota International of Candlewood Valley, Inc, choose a project in which all club members participate. This year the local chapter of the organization voted to keep it close to home, and support the food pantries in the towns where its members reside.

The afternoon of March 21 was spent sorting food that had been collected among the local chapter’s membership, and during the next week the donations were delivered among food pantries in Bethel, Brookfield, Sherman, Patterson, N.Y., and Sandy Hook, representing the home town’s of the group’s 20 members.

On Wednesday, March 28, a trio of Quota International of Candlewood Valley, Inc. members — Ginny Chion, Fran Denlinger, and Louise Fornabaio — met with Nancy Taylor to deliver toiletries and food items that had been set aside for FAITH Food Pantry. The trio also presented Ms Taylor, co-chairperson of the nonecumenical pantry housed at St John’s Church, a $100 gift card to Stop & Shop. A similar donation was also given to the aforementioned food pantries as well.

“We are now seeing at least 100 families each month,” Ms Taylor told the Quota ladies. “Residents can visit us once each month and we send them home with enough food and toiletries to cover each family member for a full week. We ask only for a photo ID and some kind of bill or notice with a home address showing that they live in Newtown.”

Anyone who could use a hand from the pantry is invited to visit the church, at 5 Washington Avenue in Sandy Hook, on Tuesday mornings between 10 am and noon, or Thursday evenings between 6 and 7:30.

For additional information call Ms Taylor at 203-426-5807 or Lee Paulsen, 203-426-5604.

Quota International of Candlewood Valley, founded in 1978, has more than 30 years of caring for others in the greater Danbury area and around the world. In addition to its annual Quota Cares Month efforts, focus is placed on giving assistance to the deaf and hearing impaired, as well as women and children in crisis. The mission of the local chapter is to “seek diverse individuals committed to sharing their time, talent, and resources to meeting our service goals.”

Meetings are the first Thursday of each month, beginning with a social gathering at 5:30 pm, at Chuck’s Steak House in Danbury. There is a $15 initiation fee, and dues are $90 per year. For additional information visit www.QuotaCV.org.
