Softball Team Blanked Three Times
Newtown High Schoolâs softball team was shutout by Masuk of Monroe, Bethel, and Brookfield this past week, and fell to 1-5 overall. The Nighthawks were no-hit by Masuk pitcher Tatum Buckley in a 13-0 setback at home on April 11.
Two days later, visiting Bethel blanked the Hawks 10-0 and host Brookfield won 9-0 over Newtown on Monday.
A bright spot for Newtown, thus far, has been the strong hitting of Mikayla Kuligowski (7-for-18 overall), Kayla OâGrady (also 7-for-18), Jess Gibbons (8-for-19), and Emily Woznick (5-for-19). The teamâs leading hitters are a combined 27-for-44, batting a collective .365 through the first six games.
Newtown was scheduled to host Kolbe Cathedral of Bridgeport on Wednesday (after The Bee sports section went to press). The Nighthawks, after visiting Notre Dame-Fairfield on Friday, April 20, return home to face Weston on Monday, April 23 at 4:15 pm.
