A infield grounder in the bottom of the sixth inning scored the go-ahead run and Swift Junior High School of Watertown was able to pin a 4-3 defeat on the Newtown Middle School softball team.

Swift went ahead, 1-0, in the bottom of the second after a leadoff single and three stolen bases. The Lady Lions tied the score in the top of the fourth after Rachel Ruiz, Kate Bowen and Kait Marsden all singled and then went ahead, 3-1, in the top of the fifth on a double by Steph Arndt, a run-scoring single Megan Casey, and an RBI single by Ruiz.

But Swift tied the score in the bottom of the frame with the aid of two singles, a double and four stolen bases. After the Lady Eagles went ahead in the bottom of the sixth, the game was called due to time restrictions (no new innings after 5:30 pm).

Bowen took the loss for Newtown but fanned nine batters as Ferris, Marsden, Ally Modzelewski, Ruiz and Ashley Kuligowski all made strong defensive plays. Ruiz had the only two-hit effort for the Lions while Arndt’s double was the only extra base knock.
