Donald G.      Whittle

Donald G. Whittle, Sr, 80, husband of Grace (Cotter) Whittle of Jeremy Swamp Road in Southbury and former Newtown resident, died April 19 in New Milford Hospital.

He was born in Bloomfield N.J., November 21, 1924, son of the late Lloyd and Eunice (Johnson) Whittle. Mr Whittle was a graduate of Newtown High School, resident of Southbury and was last employed as a commercial fisherman.

Prior to living in Southbury he was a resident of Newtown for many years. For most of his life he was a self-employed carpenter and cabinetmaker.

Mr Whittle was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army 2nd Infantry, Ninth Division in the European Theater. He was a member of Post #308 of the Veterans of Foreign War in Newtown.

Mr Whittle had a wonderful sense of humor and was known for his heart and devotion to his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, John Whittle of Sandy Hook and Donald Whittle, Jr, of Southbury; two daughters, Frances Pease of Durham and Jean Dowling of Tenants Harbor, Maine; a brother, William Whittle of Meriden, and a sister, Joan Supp of Southbury; seven grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by a sister, Eunice Peck.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 22, at 9:30 am, from the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, and at 10 am at St Rose of Lima Church in Newtown for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in St Rose cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home were scheduled for Thursday from 3 to 5 pm and from 7 to 9 pm.
