A Victory Garden Remembered
A Victory Garden Remembered
To the Editor:
It was interesting to read in last weekâs edition of The Bee of the plan to reestablish a victory garden in the Fairfield Hills property.
When I lived on Washington Square [at Fairfield Hills] from 1958 to 1966, there was a victory garden behind the tennis court. This garden was worked by resident staff, physicians, and others as a relaxing and productive avocation. The garden produced vegetables like tomatoes and squash, as well as some fruits. My recollection is that the total space was allocated as six areas for individuals to work.
Good luck to the volunteers who are spearheading this project; it is a productive and healthful enterprise.
