Clarification

A report last week about a proposal to fund solar panels at the Newtown Middle School stated the project would shift costs away from the town’s Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). Following publication, Newtown Finance Director Robert Tait clarified the proposal, if approved, would be included in the CIP but would not be bonded as a capital project. Funding would be achieved from a combination of grants with the balance initially paid from the town’s general fund. The general fund would then be reimbursed through savings achieved from energy conservation.
