Bethel 6, Newtown 2: Newtown faced a rather large U13 lax team, when they battled a bigger Bethel squad. Colin McCafferty and Austin âLeBeastâ LeBlanc were immune to their size, each finding the back of the goal with great help from Riley Rising, Elliot Gregory, Nick Lansing, and Kenny Barber. Jack âThe Wallâ Wellman was impressive in goal, and with the help from âBad, Badâ Cyril Brown and Sean Wallace, Newtown was able to hold Bethel to 6.
Newtown 2, Stratford 2: Cyril Brown continued the defensive wall with the help of Sean Wallace and Noah LaFerriere. The twin towers of Weber brothers Max and Adam tore up the midfield, with Matthew Booch-Bucci and Nate Sanchez. Riley Rising had a missile assist to set up Max Weberâs goal, and Colin McCafferty found Kenny Barber, who zipped in his own. Oliver Wood, Evan Eggleston, and Elliot Gregory had key fast breaks, with Kenny Barber dominating the turf as well.
Newtown 5, Brookfield 2: Jack âThe Wallâ Wellman protected the goal with the defensive strength of Sean Wallace, Noah LeFerriere, and âBad, Badâ Cyril Brown. Ridgefield 5 Newtown 0: Ridgefield proved too tough for Newtown to tackle as their last game of the day, despite relentless play by Austin âLeBeastâ LeBlanc, Kenny Barber, twin towers Adam and Max Weber, and the toughest goalie in town, Jack âThe Wallâ Wellman. Oliver Wood and Nick Lansing played with heroic endurance, but Newtown failed to gain control of the game.
Bantams
Newtown 6, Bethel 0: On Saturday the Newtown Bantam team traveled to Bethel to face their first opponent of the season. Newtown started quickly with scores by Jeffrey Garrity and Danny Ingersoll. Riley Ward was left wide open in front of the cage when the defense crashed on William Swierbut. Swierbut dodged three defenders to find the wide open Ward for Newtownâs third goal of the game. Minutes later Adam Kliczewski tacked on to the lead with a rocket shot past the Bethel goalie. Garrity added two more to finish with three goals on the day. Brett Pierce used his speed all game to give Newtown fast break opportunities. The defense, led by great plays from Luke Wellman, Luke Hannan, and William Wallace, kept the Bethel offense from scoring. Four Newtown goalies combined to blank Bethel; Mathew Fernand, Eric Burbank, Jack Stenz, and Stephen Sedensky all made great saves to preserve the shut out.
