At Laurie’s Laboratory

Laurie’s Laboratory, LLC has opened in Newtown offering science tutoring in concepts and hands-on lab experiences. Director Laurie Borst has nearly 20 years of teaching experience in biology, ecology, basic chemistry, and general elementary science.

Ms Borst has taught with, among others, Little Scientists, Ezra Academy, Post University, and The Maritime Aquarium.

Ms Borst believes in a multidisciplinary approach to education, integrating language arts, mathematics, history, and the arts with science. Assessing each student through a Multiple Intelligences Inventory brings a clearer understanding of each one’s strengths and weaknesses, guiding instruction to support the strengths and bolster the weak areas.

While a working knowledge of concepts and vocabulary are essential to any discipline, the joy of science comes from the laboratory and the field. To that end, Laurie’s Laboratory has microscopes, dissecting equipment, water and soil testing kits, kitchen chemistry supplies, etc.

Programs can be developed to address the needs and interests of each student.

Ms Borst holds undergraduate degrees in environmental science, biology, and education, as well as a master of science in science education from Southern Connecticut State University, LEARNscience program.
