The Process Of Creating Illustrations & Paintings, Next At SCAN

New Milford artist Nancy White Cassidy will discuss and demonstrate her process of creating her illustrations and paintings at the Wednesday, April 27, meeting-program of The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN).  on Wednesday afternoon April 27. This demonstration will begin at 1:30 pm, and will be in the lower meeting room at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown.

Ms Cassidy has created work for educational and trade publishers since 1996, as well as commissions for private clients and corporations. The process to create one of her illustrations, depicting fictitious Underground Railroad activity and which now hangs in the Housatonic Museum of Art in Bridgeport, will be included in the presentation.

Ms Cassidy has taught extensively throughout Connecticut and Vermont, and currently teaches at Washington Art Association and privately at her studio. She has also conducted one-day workshops for faculty enrichment and for corporate team-building in Connecticut and in New York City.

She earned her MFA in Visual Art at Western CT State University in 2005 and her BA in Art in 1996. In the twenty years prior to entering college, however, Ms Cassidy worked as a technician for the telephone company. Ultimately, she could no longer ignore the desire to acquire formal art training and through the encouragement and support of her husband, she left SNET in 1993.

Entering college as an adult gave her a unique perspective and commitment to honing her craft, and has served as inspiration for other adults interested in changing careers mid-life.

Prior to her MFA work, Ms Cassidy’s medium for landscapes and still life had been soft pastels, and she still teaches that medium. However, her medium of choice for illustrations and fine art is now acrylics, which allows for the sharpness in focus and detail inherent in her work, along with accelerated time for drying and framing. During her presentation at the meeting house, Ms Cassidy will demonstrate some of her method of acrylic painting as well as the equipment she uses in the process.

Additional examples of her work may be seen on her website, NancyCassidy.com.

Reservations are not needed for SCAN programs, which are free of charge, but additional information is always available from Ruth Newquist at 203-426-6654.
