NEW YORK CITY — Hirschl & Adler Modern will host a “John Moore: Paintings” through June 1. This, Moore’s tenth solo show, will feature 18 works, all oil on canvas. The exhibition is accompanied by a fully illustrated 32-page catalog featuring an essay by noted critic John Yau.

Drawing his subjects from the world, Moore remains a painter of the “stuff” of everyday lives, as he continues to incorporate still life arrangements, urban landscapes and architectural motifs into his formally constructed compositions.

Although at first glance they appear to be faithful recreations of known environments or specific places, the new works in this exhibition are seamless composites. Moore’s is a unique brand of realism infused with artifice — in invented worlds, he juxtaposes that which is directly observed with things remembered or imagined to reveal multiple layers of time, space and experience.

Born in St Louis, Mo., in 1941, Moore studied at Washington University, St Louis, and received his BFA in 1966. He received his MFA in 1968 from Yale University. Moore’s teaching includes positions at Tyler School of Art, Temple University (Philadelphia) and Boston University. Since 1999 the artist has served as the fine arts chairman at the University of Pennsylvania.

Hirschl & Adler Modern is in a landmark townhouse at 21 East 70th Street. For information, 212-535-8810, shelleyf@hirschlandadler.com or www.HirschlAndAdler.com.
