Whalenâs research, âLog Scales and Rule Makers of New England,â will focus on a better understanding of the makers and users of log calipers and log rules in New England forests from 1840 to the present day. His research will identify, classify and describe log rules and calipers, how they were made, how they were used and used by whom.
Chambersâ project, âLand of Ores, Country of Minerals: Tracing a River of Gray Gold from the Ground into Human Society, 1790â1848,â will exemplify how miners and merchants using various tools and processes extracted lead ore that connected this frontier natural resource to the industrial revolution in the period between 1790 and 1848. Chambers project will lead to an article/dissertation.
The Early American Industries Association, as a collectorsâ organization, international in scope, encourages the study and better understanding of early American industries in the shop, in the home, on the farm and on the sea.
