Annual Judged Pleasure Ride

The Friends of the Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard will hold the Annual Judged Pleasure Ride on the Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard (2GHG) grounds at Fairfield Hills on Saturday, May 8.

Start times are from 9 am to noon; rain date is Saturday, May 15. Donation is $30 through April 30th and $35 on the day of the event.

Riders may simply come and enjoy the guard’s trails; or they may be timed on a six-mile trail ride and awarded points for each obstacle successfully completed in the guard’s obstacle course. Ribbons will be awarded – two per team – for first through sixth places. The event is open to all horse owners. Riders under the age of 18 must have a release form signed by parent or guardian. All riders are asked to wear safety helmets and show proof of current Coggins and rabies vaccinations.

The 2GHG has been serving the citizenry of Connecticut since 1808 and is one of the oldest Cavalry Units in continuous service in the United States. 2GHG troopers participate in ceremonial events including parades, funeral honor squads, gubernatorial inaugurals, presidential inaugural parades, and other events at the order of either the governor or the adjutant general. Members are also dedicated to preserving the history of the cavalry in the State of Connecticut.

For registration forms, start times, inquiries and questions, call Sergeant Jackie Sundblade at 203-558-4749 or email sundblade@sbcglobal.net.

The troopers and mounts of the 2GHG remain, as always, “Ready to Serve”
