‘Enchanted April’ In Sherman

SHERMAN — Enchanted April, written by Matthew Barber from the novel by Elizabeth von Arnim, will open this weekend at The Sherman Players, serving as the community theater’s season opening production.

The play brings together four uniquely different women escaping from dismal, war-scarred London to the warm sun and blooming wisteria of San Salvatore. Leaving husbands and societal obligations behind, the desperate Hampstead housewives Lotty and Rose, severe Mrs Graves, and suductive Lady Caroline, along with some unexpected guests, learn to appreciate each other while rediscovering how to laugh and love under the Italian sun.

The Sherman production is being directed by Susan Abrams and produced by John Taylor, with sound design and original music by John Gromada.

Opening night is Friday, April 23, and will include a Spritzer Party. Curtain is at 8 pm. Performances will continue Friday and Saturday evenings until May 15 at 8, with a matinee also scheduled for Sunday, May 2, at 2 pm.

Tickets are $20. Contact the box office at 860-354-3622.

The Sherman Playhouse is at the junction of Routes 37 and 39, behind the firehouse.
