Entries Sought For Enchanted Forest Art Show
BETHLEHEM â The Bellamy-Ferriday House & Garden, working with Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust of Woodbury, will sponsor Woodland Creature Art Show at the historic property in May. Entries are being sought for the exhibition, which will be displayed May 8-31 and will include an opening reception and awards ceremony on Sunday, May 8, as part of the one-day Carolineâs Enchanted Garden: A Fairy & Wizard Festival.
The competition seeks the creation of woodland nymphs, fairies and other magical creatures created using natural materials and organic found objects such as pinecones, dried weeds and flowers, sticks, bark, stones, pods, seeds, feathers and wool. The use of invasives is encouraged. Full details are available at CTLandmarks.org (click on the link for Bellamy-Ferriday House & Garden, and then on Programs/Events).
Prizes will be awarded in categories for both adults and children. Adults will be competing for Best in Show, second and third place, and honorable mention. Childrenâs entries will be judged for Most Colorful, Best Use of Materials, Most Likely to Fly, and Most Sparkly.
There will also be a Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust and a Connecticut Landmarks Special Recognition Award in both the adult and child categories.
Two- and three-dimensional works will be considered. Entries cannot exceed 24 inches in any direction, and 2D work cannot exceed 18 by 24 inches and must be suitably framed and wired for hanging.
Drop off dates for entries are Sunday, May 2, Tuesday, May 4, and Wednesday, May 5, between 11 am and 4 pm each day, at the Bellamy-Ferriday House & Garden. Each entry must have a completed and attached entry form (available online). Entry fees and forms will be collected at this time.
No accepted work may be removed prior to the showâs conclusion on May 31, but works must be picked up by Sunday, June 6.
In addition to being part of the month-long exhibition, the works accepted will be featured in the one-day festival mentioned earlier. Carolineâs Enchanted Garden: Fairy & Wizard Festival will be a public event on Sunday, May 8, from 1 to 4 pm.
The festival will include the Woodland Creature Art Show and competition, music, magic, crafts, nature walks and more. Children and families will be treated to a story hour hosted by the Bethlehem Library, magic tricks and music while hunting for hidden fairies.
Admission for the festival will be $7, $4 for children, but free for artists with work in the Woodland Creature Show.
The Bellamy-Ferriday House & Garden reserves the right to disallow the exhibition of any work which, in the opinion of the Judges is considered detrimental to the good public image of the show and its sponsors, or that is too fragile to handle.
Entry fees are $10 for adults for the first entry, $5 for additional entries (up to three allowed for adults and children), and $4 for childrenâs entries. These fees will also provide admission for the artist on Sunday, May 8, during the festival.
Judges are artists Mary Hawvermale, Nancy R. Pistone and Rochelle Simon.
The Bellamy-Ferriday House & Garden will receive one-third of the proceeds from the sale of any artwork and the artist will receive the remaining two-thirds of the sale amount.
