Fighting Eagles 4, Tornadoes 0:

For the Tornadoes, Kimberly Johnson was a solid goaltender, and Natalene Sim stopped numerous scoring opportunities with her stellar defense, but it was not enough in this rain-soaked match. Hustling forwards Carolina Stubbs and Lindsay Merrifield took their shots on goal, but balls sailed wide of the net. For the Fighting Eagles, Katie Sailer had three assists to help Nathalie Schickendantz and Simone Paradis score twice each and Nina Hendriques led the Eagles stout defense in the opening day game.

U10

Animals 4 vs Dynamite Desserts 3: For the Animals, Allie Indelicato and Haley Harkins scored the goals with assists by Madison Findley. Laura Mailin and Janyce Toth were a force in goal with seen combined saves. For the Dynamite Desserts, goals were scored with a strong offensive effort by Dylan Zahansky, Olivia Butler, and Sydney Johnson.

Underdogs vs Extreme Mustangs: Melissa Shohet showed great effort in goal and offensively, while Natalie Shaker and Molly Mo tried to take the lead by scoring two goals for the Underdogs. Extreme Mustangs’ Megan Goyda returned to her winning ways with two goals, with Bella Jiminez adding one more with a powerful shot from outside the box to win the game. Grace Corcoran showed great effort in midfield, providing key defensive plays and setting up her teammates for offensive strikes.

Newtown Heat 6, Ridgefield 0: The Newtown Heat jumped ahead early in their win over the Ridgefield girls, scoring four goals in the first half. Goal scorers were Alexis Mason, Lauren King, Priya Deraney, and Elizabeth Chamiec-Case, with assists from Anna Moscovici, Ally Paynter, and Caitlyn Reilly. Strong goaltending by Colleen McCarthy assured that the Heat walked away with a shut out.

U14

Twisters 7, Chatterboxes 4: Kerry Scallon had 2 goals and 2 assists. Caitlin Filiato and Aofie Flanagan each scored 2 goals and had one assist, and Bella Saraceni scored. Solid defense by Anna Pinckney and persistent midfield play by Tonya Tucker. For the Chatterboxes, Jamie Duncan had 2 goals and Meghan and Emily Grimes each had a goal. Emily Grimes added two assists.

The Chatterboxes had strong play came from Alex Dittrich at the midfield and great defense by Chrissy Moore and Morgan Goldstein.  

Boys

U8

Sky Hawks5, Team Five 2: Team Five came out of the gates on fire and scored two quick goals, one by Issac Silverman and the other by Grant Horn. Jacob Goldstein anchored a strong defense. The Sky Hawks quickly fell behind by two goals before the power was turned on by Justin Jarvis, Brandon Lutz, and Steven Cheh. The Sky Hawks played well as a team. James Belden controlled the midfield. Christopher Shaker, Ryan Farell and Ethan Braddock played strong both offensively and defensively to keep the team working on all cylinders.

U14

Hot Pockets 3, American Tigers 0. The American Tigers played hard and had a great game. Alister Sore and Kevin Lopes did a great job on offense, Raymond Xue was terrific on defense, and Nathan Williams played a great game overall. Scoring for the Hot Pockets were Tim Kelly with two, and Tyler Dullinger. Korey Brodsky played great offense for the Hot Pockets, and Michael Unschuld played a great game all around.
