Hospital’s 19th Annual Children’s Day Is May 1

DANBURY — Danbury Hospital invites the public to attend the 19th Annual Children’s Day, Saturday, May 1, from 10 am to 2 pm, at the hospital. The event starts at the Praxair Regional Cancer Center lobby located on the first floor of the Stroock Building, Locust Avenue entrance. Attendees may park free in the Red Parking garage.

Danbury Hospital’s annual signature event promotes physical activity, good nutrition, and general wellness to children in a nonthreatening way by creating a free, entertaining day of “hands-on” educational activities while at the same time introducing them to the hospital environment. Special events on May 1 also celebrate Danbury Hospital’s 125th birthday.

Last year’s event attracted more than 3,000 children and families. The 2010 Children’s Day theme “Step up to the plate!” is geared toward preventing childhood obesity through physical activity and good nutrition.

The event will combine a free, fun family day with health care, fun, and fitness.

Special events and activities include:

*A healthy home plate — Healthy cooking demonstrations and good nutrition tips for balanced meal planning

*Amber Alert Child ID program

*“Ask-a-Doctor” booth with face-to-face Q&A

*Face painting and fun physical activities

*Free health screenings for kids and parents

Or take a tour of the Emergency Department, Pediatrics, the Duracell Center for Ambulatory Surgery, EMS, ambulance, police, fire vehicles, and more.

Danbury Hospital’s 19th Annual Children’s Day is made possible by the generous contributions of local volunteer sponsors including the Danbury Public Schools, New Fairfield Press, local police and the Danbury Fire Department, Life Net of New York helicopter (11 am to noon; weather permitting), and other civic-minded youth groups and organizations.

Help feed the hungry! Bring nonperishable foods or grocery gift cards to donate and be entered to win a family prize.

There are a limited number of fun giveaways while supplies last.

The main entrance and check-in for Children’s Day takes place in the Praxair Cancer Center lobby located on the first floor of the Stroock Building. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
