Beloved Husband, Father, And Grandfather
John R. Liggins, 76, beloved husband of Beverly (Metcalf) Liggins and a 48-year resident of Newtown, died April 15, in St Vincentâs Medical Center, Bridgeport. He was born in Bridgeport August 3, 1933, a son of Marie (Mariarz) and Walter Liggins.
Mr Liggins was a graduate of the University of Bridgeport and was a member of the basketball team. Following college he served two years in the US Army and played semipro basketball.
Mr Liggins retired after 35 years of service for Harvey Hubbell, Inc, where he was a computer analyst. He also taught computer science at Waterbury State Technical College. He was and avid golfer and a basketball enthusiast. He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather.
In addition to his wife of 53 years, he is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Louise and Steve LaCroce of Prospect, Laura and Craig Bursey of Farmington, Jackie and Jim Zoldy and Joy and Chris Kyle, all of Watertown; and eight grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St Rose of Lima Church April 19. Interment followed in Newtown Village Cemetery.
