Newtown Track And Field Teams Begin Season With Success

Newtown High School’s girls’ and boys’ track and field teams kicked off the 2010 campaign with meets at Joel Barlow High in Redding — the boys on April 15 and the girls on April 19.

The boys’ squad defeated host Barlow and lost to Weston and the girls defeated Lauralton Hall of Milford and Weston, and fell to Barlow. Both teams had several individual first-place finishes.

Boys’ Team Results

Boys’ meet team scores are as follows: Newtown 76.5, Barlow 73.5; Weston 79.5, Newtown 69.5.

Newtown’s individuals who placed among the top three are as follows:

110-meter high hurdles: Third place, Chad Cullens,. 20.7

100: First, Ken Toal, 11.6; Third, Eric Thornberg, 11.9

1600: Third, Jake Feinstein, 4:36.0

300 hurdles: Second, Ian McEvoy, 43.7

800: Third, Palmer Lintz, 2:08

200: Second, Thornberg 24.0; Third, McEvoy, 24.3

3200: Third, Feinstein, 10:11.5

High Jump: Third, Sean Maher, 5-8

Long Jump: First, Maher, 17-11; Third, Ben Miles, 16-11.5.

Triple Jump: Second, Rockwell Anyoha, 37-2.

Javelin Throw: Second, John Wlasuk, 158-9; Third, Louis Fenaroli, 136-6
