Republican Senatorial Hopefuls Appearing April 28
Republican Senatorial Hopefuls Appearing April 28
The Newtown Republican Town Committee is once again inviting any resident or visitor with an interest to a forum with all the current GOP challengers vying to challenge Democrat Richard Blumenthal for the US Senate.
The forum occurs Wednesday, April 28, at 7 pm. Organizer Mitch Bolinsky, RTC vice chairman, said all GOP contenders for the seat being vacated by Christopher Dodd are committed to be on hand, including Vincent Forras, Linda McMahon, Peter Schiff, and Rob Simmons. Â
The event is free, open to the public and will be held at Newtownâs Multipurpose Building / Senior Center at 14 Riverside Road in Sandy Hook. Guests are also welcome to stay for the regularly scheduled RTC meeting, immediately following.
This event was rescheduled from earlier in the campaign season after all the GOP contenders were unable to make the previously scheduled forum February 24.
According to Mr Bolinsky, the format of the evenings is nonconfrontational by design, and the speaking order will be determined randomly as selected by an informal drawing at the start of each evening.
âThe forum is not set up as a debate,â Mr Bolinsky wrote in an advance. âRather, it will afford each candidate the opportunity to speak for ten minutes about issues most important to them, what makes them the best person to represent Connecticut in the US Senate and what makes them individual best suited to defeat [Democratic candidate and state Attorney General Richard Blumenthal].â
Mr Bolinsky said after everyone speaks, there will be a moderator-directed Q&A session followed by an opportunity for concluding comments, coffee, and a casual meet and greet.
