Newtown police noticed that the driver, David Hawley, 58, of Waterbury had made a motor vehicle violation in Bethel, so they contacted Bethel police for assistance. Bethel police stopped the Saturn on Benedict Road to investigate.

Bethel police said they charged Hawley with failure to signal while making a turn and with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana.

Bethel police released Hawley on $500 bail for an April 27 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
