Occupational therapists focus on “doing” whatever activities are meaningful to a person. It is the goal to get beyond problems to develop solutions to life’s challenges. These solutions may include exercise, hands-on therapeutic techniques, changing the environment, or simply adjusting how a task is done. Individuals with some of these conditions may benefit from occupational therapy: arthritis, stroke, breast cancer, fractures, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, and upper extremity pain including injuries and carpal tunnel syndrome.

Griffin’s occupational therapists have specialized expertise in treatment of the upper extremity, including hand therapy. In the hospital’s state-of-the art facility, individuals benefit from customized splinting as well as a fully equipped gym and a full complement of therapeutic modalities. Patients benefit from the Planetree model of care, which focuses on providing individualized, patient-centered care in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.

Appointments may be scheduled by calling 203-732-7445.
