Nighthawk Tennis Teams Earn Wins

Newtown High School’s girls’ and boys’ tennis teams both earned 6-1 wins over New Milford — the girls at home and the boys on the road — on April 16.

They each picked up victories over Immaculate of Danbury on April 21. The boys won 6-1 at home and the girls were 5-2 victors in the Hat City.

The girls were 3-2 and the boys were 3-1 going into the final week of action in April.

Against New Milford, in singles play, Lauren Beier earned a 6-0, 6-0 win, Mia Terracino won 6-1, 6-0, Annie Beier won 6-0, 6-2, and Caroline Lockwood came out on top, 6-2, 6-3. In doubles play, the top tandem of Julia Frattaroli and Aimee Alexander won 6-0, 6-0, and the No. 2 tandem of Alisha Aggarwal and Astid Sundberg won 6-0, 6-1. Newtown didn’t have enough players and forfeited at third doubles.

In the boys’ match with New Milford, in singles play, Keaton McCleary won 6-3, 7-6 (8-6), Nic Klein won 6-1, 7-5, Matt Carino came out on top, 6-2, 6-4, and Joey Conrod won with ease, 6-0, 6-0. In doubles action, Jordan Klein and Peter Winans lost 6-0, 6-0, James Frazzetta and Michael Dutsar won 6-0, 6-0, and Charlie Poarch and Justin Oelberg won 6-0, 6-1.

In the girls’ team’s victory over Immaculate, Lauren Beier won 6-0, 6-0, Terracino prevailed 6-1, 6-3, Annie Beier won 6-0, 6-0, and Lockwood won 6-1, 6-2. In doubles play, Frattaroli and Alexander won 6-0, 6-1.

In the boys’ team’s win over Immaculate, Klein won 6-2, 6-1, Carino came out on top, 6-1, 6-0, and Peter Winans won 6-1, 6-2. In doubles play, Kunal Marwah and Conrad joined forces to earn a 6-0, 6-0 triumph, Frazzetta and Dutsar won 6-0, 6-1, and Poarch and Justin Oelberg won 6-1, 6-0.

Joey Conrad hits a return during early season action. The Nighthawks started the year 3-1.
Julia Frattaroli and the Nighthawks won three of their first five matches as they entered into the final week of April.
