Forum Will Cover The Benefits And Options
Of Preserving Family Land
WOODBURY â A forum titled âSaving Your Familyâs Land: Benefits and Optionsâ will be held Saturday, May 5, from 10 am until noon, at Woodbury Town Hall Annex, 297 Main Street South (in the Woodbury Telephone Building).
The free program is being sponsored by Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust, the Town of Woodbury Open Space Committee, and Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition.
Anyone who would like more information about preserving family land is invited. Topics will cover land preservation benefits and options, tax incentives, and legal issues.
According to Arthur Milnor, executive director of Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust, âThere may never be a better time to take action to preserve your land because certain federal tax incentives may expire at the end of 2007.â
Presenters will include Elisabeth Moore, project director for the Connecticut Farmland Trust; Â Mary M. Ackerly, an attorney specializing in taxation, real estate, elder law, and estate planning; and Hugh Schoelzel, a Litchfield landowner who recently granted an easement on part of his land and will share his experiences.
The forum will offer relevant information and resources to help landowners make informed decisions about their land and potential ways to leave a lasting legacy for their family and community. There will be ample opportunities for questions and answers.
The sponsoring organizations all work to preserve the character of the community by promoting land conservation and protection of valuable natural resources.
To reserve a place, call Flanders Nature Center at 263-3711, extension 10. To arrange for a ride to the event or for additional information, call 263-5605 or 266-4651. Refreshments will be provided.
