Her Passions
Harriet Helm Ostrander, 88, died after a long illness April 21. She had been a resident at Lockwood Lodge/Ashlar in Newtown for the past seven years.
Mrs Ostrander was born in Minneapolis, the daughter of H.S. and Belle Grignon Helm. She was a graduate of Mills College and had lived in California, Rhode Island, New Canaan, and Southbury.
Mrs Ostrander is lovingly remembered by two daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia and David Reinhardt of Newtown and Candace Foster of Lincoln, Mass.; and four grandchildren, Andrea and Jeffrey Reinhardt of Newtown, Shelby Foster of Washington, D.C., and Ryan Foster of Cleveland.
Mrs Ostrander was recognized for her lifelong passion for music, horses, and wildlife. She had been a violinist, competitive horsewoman, and had traveled extensively in Africa over many years, working to preserve endangered giraffe and rhinoceros species.
A private, family memorial service will take place in July at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Arrangements are in care of the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
