Historical Society Offers Summer Camp Circa 1750
The Newtown Historical Society announces registration is open for its 2007 Summer History Camp. The camp will be held July 16â20, 10 am to 1 pm daily. The camp will be held at the Matthew Curtiss House, home of the Newtown Historical Society, 44 Main Street.
This unique camp will explore the life of a colonial child living in Newtown around the year 1750. The campers will explore how a child dressed (the campers will make a garment to wear and keep), what jobs might they be expected to do, what games they played, what lessons were important to learn, and what food the family would have eaten (campers will cook a meal on the open hearth and make a variety of snacks).
This camp is for children 7 to 10 years old and costs $150 per child. Space is strictly limited to ten campers, which will guarantee a rich hands-on experience. To reserve your childâs opportunity to attend, send a nonrefundable $25 deposit (which will be applied to the camp fee) to Newtown Historical Society Summer Camp, PO Box 189, Newtown, CT 06470 (Attn Gordon Williams).
Include childâs name, parentâs name, address, phone number, and e-mail address.
Reservations will be confirmed and additional camp details given at that time. For more information, call 426-6443. Events and photos from the 2006 camp can be seen online at newtownhistory.org.
