Warriors 3, Mustangs 0: A sun-drenched Saturday morning greeted the Warriors and the Mustangs in a clash overflowing with great effort and equally great sportsmanship. Emma Magazu found the back of the net first for the Warriors, followed by a Sophia Bajcer goal on an assist from Charlotte Branchflower, and a final goal on a fine shot by Olivia Buchler. The Warriors continued to pressure the net with attacks led by Emily Dunford and Katie Jones. However, the Mustangsâ solid defense, led by Lindsey Booth and Lexi Ferrara, repeatedly stopped the Warriors and played strong defense throughout the game. The Mustangs were robust in goal as well, especially Emma Walsh who did a great job in the fourth quarter. The Mustangs then mounted their own offensive assault with Nora Kliczewski, Christina Vitti, and Isabella Arguello moving the ball well, creating many scoring opportunities, and pressuring the Warrior defense. Still, Samantha Kuruc and Alexis Woods inspired a stout Warrior defense to rise up and turn back the charges.
SuperStrikers 4, Pink Dragons 0: Quick-striking Abby Stites scored two goals and assisted on Emma Butlerâs first goal of the season. Julia Gerace chipped in with a goal and played well on both sides of the ball. The total team effort was reflected by the outstanding play of Emi Rosenthal, Piper Salva, Vanesa Bajraliu, Elise Baricelli, and Katie Marcum. Kyra Masone was terrific in goal making several stops and hustled all over the field when playing offense and defense.
For the Pink Dragons, Paige Farley was terrific on offense with numerous shots on goal. Although none of those shots found the back of the net, Paige kept the opposing goaltenders busy. Gracie Soltis and Katherine Hatcher played solid defense. Ally McCarthy demonstrated great hustle up and down the field and Tatum Radacsiâs booming kicks resulted in some quick transition scoring opportunities. Sanjana Vakacheria was excellent in goal with several saves to keep the score within reach.
The Lightning Strikes 4, Lightning 0: The Lightning Strikes lived up to their name by striking quickly and without warning building an early 4-0 lead on two goals by Olivia Cornett, with Becca Filiato and Michaela Cosgriff each adding a score. The Lighting offense was led by the nice footwork and overall play of Kristen Reisert, Katie Viselli, and Meagan Delp. The trio moved the ball well toward the opponentâs net and exhibited excellent ball control and passing skills. However, the outstanding goaltending of Alyssa Bailey of The Lightning Strikes coupled with the strong defensive play of Carly Decker and Kennedy Cope kept the Lightning off the scoreboard. The Lightning defense was anchored by the stellar play of sweeper Nicole Fisher, and defensive wings Annie Conners and Madison DelPozo. The defensive unit was able to repel multiple attacks from a tough opponent after settling down into the game. Julia Raiani played well overall, and Mia Guarna had an excellent showing in goal during the third quarter. For The Lightning Strike,s Anna Romano and Siena Harper showed strong field presence in moving the ball.

Newtown Funky Monkeys 4, Greenwich Freedom 0: On a blustery, rainy day, the Monkeys slipped and slid their way across Fairfield Hills for their second win of the season. Simone Paradis once again fired off the first goal of the game early in the first half. Greenwich threatened several time, but Holly Ankersâ footwork denied them a great chance to even the game up. Top banana again was Sage Karp as she netted a pair of goals to extend the Monkey lead. McKenna Cuomo, after keeping the Monkey goal safe for the first half, snuck in a goal late in the second half as the Monkey defense tightened up to keep the shutout.

Newtown 5, Stamford 0: The Dynamites opened the spring season with a home game against Stamford. The Dynamites got their first goal when Keeley Kortze scored on a penalty kick. Emily Celentano dribbled the ball down the field to score the second goal. Lindsay Merrifield played hard on offense and Audrey Benson did the same at midfield to help keep the ball on the Stamford end. Lauren Carrino had multiple saves as goalie, including one on a penalty kick. Emma Curtis took on three Stamford defenders to score again for the Dynamites. Jenna Lavelle opened the second half with a breakaway shot to bring the score to 4-0. Finally, Lavelle passed to Lauren Carrino who netted the ball for the dayâs final score. Stamford increased the pressure on the Newtown defense in the second half, but defenders, including Grace Corcoran, protected the net. Lu Hage and Kortze both had saves in goal.

Newtown 2, Fairfield 2: The Dynamites played their next game in Fairfield during a steady rain. Early pressure by Fairfield had Newtown defending. Lauren Carrino had several saves. Rebecca Gavel, Brooke Antous, and Katie Sailer all had shots on goal, but the half ended with the game scoreless. The second half got underway with shots by Newtown, but Fairfield struck first. Goalie Rebecca Gavel continued to make saves for the Dynamites including a high reach to knock a shot away. Lauren Adams crossed the ball for a shot, but it was saved by the Fairfield keeper. Brooke Antous crossed the ball which Katie Sailer got her foot on for the first Dynamites first score of the game to bring it to 1-1. Jenna Lavelle took a shot which the Fairfield goalie bobbled but Katie Sailer was there to tap it in for a 2-1 lead.

Water Buffaloes 3, Bob Sagets 3: Monday nightâs game between the Buffaloes and the Sagets ended in a tie as the well- matched teams dueled for the advantage. The Water Buffaloes took an early lead with 2 goals scored by Dillon Palumbo with assists from Andrew Janco and Lukas Palumbo. Andrew Janco rounded out the scoring with a goal of his own. Robert DiSibio had a strong performance at midfield and as a forward, while Will Ballard kept his cool in the goal under consistent pressure from the Sagets. Travis Hanna scored one for the Sagets. Kevin Arthur followed up with two more goals, one on a penalty shot. RH Clark was locked down in the goal with excellent defense from Riley Burns. Nate Torre-Tasso contributed good all-around play for the Sagets.Â

Wolverines 4, Team Eight 1: The Wolverines won their second straight game amid a frigid, rainy day, overcoming Team Eight. An early lead was taken as Neil Kalra punched the ball past the goalie on a high arching kick. Minutes later the lead was extended to 3 by Zach Guilherme, who netted 2 goals on nearly back to back plays. Late in the game Colden Bobowick flashed down the left sideline on his way to a well-placed shot in the corner of the net for the Wolverinesâ final goal. A very strong defense was led by Daniel DeBartolomeo who constantly foiled scoring attempts from the opposition.
Nighthawks 4, Sponge Bobs 2: In a driving rainstorm the Nighthawks defeated the Sponge Bobs. The Nighthawks showed great team work and persistence throughout the game. Adem Selmani led the team by netting the teamâs 4 goals. The great play of the remainder of the team made this possible. John Sullivan and Tyler DiMartino were strong controlling the ball on the attack and both had assists. John dribbled the length of the field and passed it off at the perfect time and Tyler had a strong forward pass resulting in a goal. Brandon Akbas and Connor Mandarano played incredible defense and made great plays starting the Nighthawk offense. Ryan Ruddy ran the midfield great and also had an assist on a nice cross to Adem. Gunnar Bozentko and Aidan Waaler played every position on the field during the game and made fantastic stops when the Nighthawks needed them.
The Sponge Bobs were led by Tanner Trede, who scored two third period goals off of fantastic assists by Jake Mailloux and Tyler Grosso. Jack Petersen played an incredible game in goal while Ben Paley and Andrew Bazuro hustled all over the field. The Sponge Bob defense received great all-around performances from Ethan Paley, RJ Figueroa, and Cameron Petrelli.
Cheeseballs 3, Team Two 3: The Cheeseballs played a rainy day matinee against a solid Team Two, which featured some great passing on both sides that ended fittingly in a 3-3 tie. For the Cheeseballs, Colin Marshall opened the scoring in the first quarter with a goal off a shot in the box assisted by Markus Paltauf. In the second quarter Owen Reinhart scored with a great volley past the keeper from a cross by Markus Paltauf. Later in the game, Markus Paltauf scored with a beautiful shot into the upper net off a free kick from outside the box. Jeremy Pankow and Michael Elston created many scoring chances while Sam Staubly and Calum Edmond played solid defense. Ethan Appiah and J.P. OâLeary made some fantastic saves in goal.
