Don’t Get Public Service

Robert Hall’s letter to The Bee last week says it all when one thinks of Bienkowski, Robinson et al and the approach they have taken to the administration of Newtown’s schools.

When Mr Bienkowski refers to a Newtowner as “some” — particularly a resident with Mr Hall’s contributions to this town — it speaks volumes.

The administration of our school system simply doesn’t get a basic concept, i.e. they work for the residents of this town. Somehow, they missed this simple concept of public service.

As a result they have embarked on a series of misguided attempts to do whatever they want despite the efforts of the Board of Education or public opinion. The increases in the budget — as noted by Mr Hall — are another example of how this administration marches to the beat of their own drum.

The current Board of Education seems to be taking a harder line with the administration. That is the good news; the bad news is the horse is out of the barn. Whatever is done to get this administration back on the reservation is welcome. The problem is their actions will leave us a legacy that will take years to unwind.

At least, from what I hear that is the opinion of some.
