Love & Knishes, Long-Term Care, Life After Loss Activities On Tap
SOUTHBURY -â Whether it is rhythmic drumming, classical flute music or a duo playing four-handed piano, three diverse musical programs will appeal to many different tastes at the Love & Knishes Lunch Program during May.
All area adults age 60 and better are invited to make reservations to enjoy themselves with award-winning Jordan Caterers of Cheshireâs healthful hot lunch, which is served at noon and followed by entertainment at 1 pm.
Programs take place in the Jewish Federationâs social hall at 444 Main Street North.
On May 4, Cantor Daniel Pincus of New York makes an encore appearance with Health-Rhythms, a group drumming experience.
The Friends Youth Ensemble performs on May 18. Flutist and pianist Jenny Li leads this talented group of young Southbury musicians: Mengting Zhang on clarinet and piano and Dennis Li and Dereck Li on flute.
And on May 25, â2 Friends, 4 Hands, 1 Pianoâ unites pianists Jeanne Hinkson and John Dulina as they showcase a collection of light classical and popular pieces as well as ragtime solos and duets and a few accordion pieces.
Lunch reservations should be made by the Friday before each lunch. All programs are open to the public, and there is a suggested lunch donation of $7.50 for adults age 60 and better and $9.50 for those under 60.
In other news, attorney Julia M. Brown will discuss the importance of advance planning, essential legal documents and what is available to pay for long-term care at a free program open to the public on Thursday, May 6 at 2 pm.
Ms Brown, JD, CELA (Certified Elder Law Attorney) has been providing elder law services in Connecticut for the past 20 years. Her firm is committed to advocating and providing âholisticâ services to clients and their families who are in crisis as well as planning in advance of crisis.

Also, a four-part workshop for adults who have had a loved one die is being offered, at no cost, on Wednesdays, May 5, 12, 26 and June 2 from 1 to 2:30 pm, at The Jewish Federation. âRebuilding Your Life After Lossâ is a beneficial workshop that looks at reactions to loss and how to move forward while experiencing grief. Participants will find insight and learn strategies for working through their grief.
The workshop will be facilitated by Kendall Palladino, MDiv, ACPE, who is director of Bereavement & Spiritual Services for Regional Hospice. He has more than a decade of experiencing supporting people with serious, life-limiting illness and loss.
Mr Palladino has degrees from Harvard and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and is pursuing a doctorate at Princeton University.
