Newtown Moon Jumpers Heading To National And
Lone Star Classic Tournaments
Five members of Newtown Moon Jumpers Jump Rope Team competed in the USA Jump Rope Regional Tournament, qualifying for both the National Tournament and the Lone Star Classic Tournament.
The Moon Jumpers competed Saturday, April 24, against jumpers from seven other teams from the Northeast at the tournament held in Exeter, N.H.
Brianna DelGiudice, Kristina Patterson, Doug Raigosa, and Daisy Zheng took fourth place in Double Dutch Pairs Speed and will travel to Galveston, Texas, in June to represent Newtown against teams from across the nation. Doug Raigosa placed fifth in Male 3-Minute Single Rope Speed, fifth in Male Single Rope Freestyle, and sixth in Male 1-Minute Single Rope Speed, and Brianna DelGiudice, Kristina Patterson, and Doug Raigosa placed seventh in Double Dutch Speed Relay, qualifying to compete in the Lone Star Classic Tournament, which will be held in Galveston the day before the National Tournament.
Julie Raigosa, Brianna DelGiudice, Kristina Patterson, and Doug Raigosa placed eleventh in Single Rope Speed Relay, and Julie Raigosa placed twelfth in Female Single Rope Freestyle.
The Moon Jumpers Team competes in several tournaments a year and does performances and workshops in the Newtown area. The team currently has about 20 members and is open to boys and girls age 7 and up through Newtown Parks and Recreation Department. The Moon Jumpersâ next performance will be at the Pootatuck Duck Race in Sandy Hook on May 29.
