Robert Paton McCulloch of Singer Island, Fla., died after a long fight with cancer, April 17, surrounded by his family. He was born in New Jersey and was married to Jane for 58 years. They made their home in Newtown, and had a wonderful, joyful, life raising their family.
Mr McCulloch served in the military first in 1946 with the US Navy, and with the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
He graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson College in 1955. At the age of 28, he was instrumental in developing a new concept of fire hose, as a national sales manager for Uniroyal.
Following an industrial development career, Mr McCulloch started construction and development of single-family homes in Newtown, as McCulloch Realtors. His many residential and commercial subdivisions included Smoke Rise Ridge, Saw Mill Ridge, Westwood Terrace, Shut Road, Webster Place, Newtown Industrial Park, Commerce Road, Grand Place, Saddle Ridge Road, Hawthorne Hill Road, Lexington Hill, Concord Ridge, Blaklee Drive, and Newfield Lane.
While living in Newtown, Mr McCulloch was named Realtor of the Year, and served as president of the Newtown Board of Realtors. He was an instructor at the University of Connecticut, regional vice president of the Connecticut Association of Realtors, and was a justice of the peace.
He was an accomplished trumpet player and played with the Four Chessmen and Shep Fields Orchestra during the 1940s. In Newtown, Mr McCulloch was a prominent fixture in the Newtown Labor Day Parade with his red 1959 Corvette.
He and his wife moved to Singer Island, where he was successful selling real estate as a âTop Producerâ for Illustrated Properties Real Estate. After 50 years in the real estate industry, Mr McCulloch earned his emeritus status with the National Association of Realtors.
Mr McCulloch loved to go to work each day. He believed he made a difference in so many peopleâs lives.
