Family: My parents live in Boise, Idaho, and my sister lives in Berklee, Mass. Here in town it’s my wife Lisa; our son Eli, who is a student at Reed School; and our daughter Ava, who is a sophomore in high school and a volleyball player.

How did you meet your wife? We were both working in Stamford. I was working at GTE, and she was next door at Champion International. We were doing a similar thing, working for the company’s health and fitness promotion programs. She came over for a tour one day. My boss asked me to lead the tour, and that was the start of our getting together.

How long have you lived in Newtown? About 12 years.

Where do you work and what do you do? Currently I am not working. I did 25 years as a personal fitness trainer/health education person in a corporate setting. I was also a CPR instructor for about 10 years. When COVID hit I was working at a gym in Wilton, and the gym shut down. I basically became my son’s teacher – we were trying to figure everything out during those crazy days. The home online learning, trying to freestyle PE classes.

Do you have any pets? We have a rescue named Luna, who is a mix of boxer and we think Great Pyrenees.

What do you like to do with your free time? Some kind of exercise — either hiking, and I’m really into mountain biking. I really learned during COVID how much there is around here. Connecticut has such cool terrain to ride in. It’s just beautiful.

What is the most recent book you’ve read? The Birth of Loud. It’s about Leo Fender and Les Paul, when they were starting Gibson and Fender, and the battle to get their guitars into the hands of guys like Clapton and Hendrix. It’s a really good read, especially if you’re into guitars.

Favorite musician? I think my favorite musician is Michael Hedges. You could classify him as a New Age guitarist, but he hated to be categorized in any way. He did really unique tunings, or tapping with one hand and doing something else with the other so it literally sounds like two guitars. He did really neat things. He was so innovative. He’s inspired a whole generation of young guitarists.

What was the most recent concert you went to? I just went with a friend of mine to Fairfield Theatre Company to see The Aristocrats — Guthrie Govan, who a lot of people call the best guitarist in the world — it’s really insane, what he can do; Marco Minnemann, who played one of the most amazing drum solos I’ve ever heard; and Bryan Beller on bass. They play this super complex stuff that would take most people forever to learn. It was a good one.

What was the most recent movie you saw in the theater? I went with my son to see the Minecraft movie. It was based in a fictional town in Idaho, where I’m from, which was fun.

Favorite actor? John Lithgow.

Favorite movie genre? Comedy if I have to go with one, although I like many types.

Favorite color? Blue.

Favorite food? One of my favorite meals is when my mom would put on the grill a flank steak, do some mushrooms in butter, a side of either broccoli or asparagus, maybe a baked potato, and a glass of red wine. That’s the perfect meal to me.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? I do enjoy Europe. We went to Italy for our honeymoon, and that was pretty fantastic. The whole area of Italy, Austria, Germany — it blows me away.

What is your favorite thing about Newtown? The people are very laid back. They’re down to earth people you can talk to. I love all the community events too — the Earth Day event, the St Rose Carnival. I remember going to the carnival when we first came to town and all these kids were running around doing their own thing, and no one was stressed out. Everyone was very chill. I remember thinking, “Oh, I guess we should relax.” We’d been trying to move here for a long time, from Danbury. It was a great decision to come here.

Do you have a personal credo? Be kind. It really comes down to that, and just be yourself.
