Spring Book Donation Day
*Volunteers will be at the library on Sunday, May 3, from noon to 5 pm rain or shine to accept donations for the 2009 Friends of Booth Library Book Sale.
Used books, CDs, VHS tapes, LPs and DVDs are all needed. Volunteers will even meet drivers in the libraryâs parking lot to help unload your donations. Tax receipts are available.

Artistic Endeavors
 *The 39th Annual Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) Spring Juried Art Show continues through Sunday, May 3, in the library lower meeting room/exhibition space.
*Next up will be a collection of works by John Slaney and James Jeffrey. That show will be hung on May 6 and will continue for the remainder of the month.
Childrenâs Programs
*Marie Walker will lead a Motherâs Day craft workshop for children ages 6 and up on Wednesday, May 6, at 4 pm.
A $3 materials fee is due at registration.
*Mother Goose on the Loose, a new program for children under age 2 and their parents, is an award-winning early literacy program we will continue offering each Wednesday at 10 am until May 13.
The 30-minute sessions include traditional rhymes, songs, music, movement, flannel board activities and simple books. No registration is required.

Young Adult Programs
*Motherâs Day is Sunday, May 10: Bring your mom, grandmother or favorite aunt to see âPlays For Our Mothersâ at 3 pm, presented by The Mask & Wig Players.
This group of short plays includes a old-time radio melodrama and some creative fun. Mothers in the audience will also receive a special token from the Young Adult Council.
*Chess Club News: In last weekendâs Junior Chess Tournament, Kai Hedin of Newtown and Brandon Huang of New York City, who is a frequent visitor to Newtown, tied with two wins and one draw each, finishing with 2.5 out of three points. Seven players age 12 and under participated in the April 25 session.
*Poem In Your Pocket: As part of National Poetry Month, the Young Adult Council has filled a big jar with all kinds of poetry â original, copies of favorites, or new poems just discovered. Come in and take a poem from the jar in the YA area on the second floor to read aloud to family, friends and co-workers all week long. Poems are for everyone!

*Book Groups: Newcomers are always welcome to join discussions with any of the book groups hosted by the library. Multiple copies of each scheduled book are available for borrowing.
The Nonfiction Book Group will discuss Devil in the White City by Erik Larson on Tuesday, May 5, at 1 pm; The Daytime Book Group will talk about 1,000 White Women by Jim Fergus on Monday, May 11, at 1 pm; and The Evening Book Group will cover Innocent Blood by PD James on Thursday, May 21, at 7:30 pm.
*Coldwell Banker Real Estate associates will offer a real estate seminar called âBuying and Selling in Todayâs Housing Marketâ on Tuesday, May 5, from 5 to 7 pm.
*Newtown Historical Society will sponsor a program by Richard Clark, who will portray and discuss the robber baron Andrew Carnegie on Monday, May 11, at 7:30 pm.
*Wednesday Afternoon at the Movies: Join us for a screening of The Popeâs Toilet on Wednesday, May 13, at 1 pm.
*Working in Natureâs Garden: On Thursday, May 14, at 7 pm, master gardener Sydney Eddison will discuss the growth, change and interaction of her Newtown property with the surrounding state forest.
Special highlights of the talk, which is sponsored by Newtown Forest Association, will include illustrated methods, techniques and plantings that accentuate our native woods, meadows, and wetlands.
*Job Search Workshop: Cheryl Schwartz, MS, MSW, LCSW, CRC, who has been a consultant and coach to individuals and organizations for over 20 years, will offer her next program on Thursday, May 21, from 3 to 4:30 pm.
âThe Interviewâ will include information on types of interviews, managing the interview, questions employers may ask, and even offer dos and donâts. Registration is required, which can be done in person or online.
