Tennis Teams Earn Victories On The Courts
Newtown High School’s tennis teams posted wins over New Fairfield on April 23 and Joel Barlow of Redding on April 28 — the girls 5-2 at home over New Fairfield and 4-3 at Barlow; the boys 7-0 at New Fairfield and 7-0 over visiting Joel Barlow.
Against New Fairfield the Newtown girls got wins at third and fourth singles as Jamie Rowan prevailed 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 and Eren Weiss won 6-3, 6-1. In doubles matches No. 1 Reese Lischuk and Eli Musen won 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, No. 2 Emma Lyddy and Katie Jarvis won 7-6, 2-6, 6-4, and No. 3 Sydney Bruno and Charlotte Grasso came out on top 6-3, 0-6, 7-5.
In the win over Barlow No. 2 singles player Emily Dutsar won 6-2, 6-1, No. 3 Rowan won 6-4, 6-2, and No. 4 Weiss came out on top 6-2, 6-2. In doubles play No. 3 Bruno and Grasso won 6-1, 6-0.
On the boys’ courts in the New Fairfield match, singles winners each posting 6-0, 6-0 triumphs were (No. 1 through 4) Frankie Cannizzo, Ryan Hislop, Theo Anderson, and Brody Paulsen. In doubles action No. 1 Aarav Shetty and Josh Prud’homme won 6-3, 6-0, No. 2 Cam Linnetz and Steven Singlak won 6-1, 6-1, and No. 3 Sean Conlin and Joe Mele came out on top 6-1, 6-3.
The Hawks defeated Barlow behind some hard-fought wins and lopsided sets alike. No. 1 A.J. Singh won 5-7, 6-1, 6-2, No. 2 Cannizzo won 6-0, 6-0, No. 3 Shetty won 6-2, 6-0, No. 4 Paulsen also won 6-2, 6-0. In doubles play, No. 1 Anderson and Liam Conlin won 6-3, 6-3, No. 2 George Eppers and Ryan Hislop won 5-7, 6-3, 6-2, and No. 3 Linnetz and Singlak won 6-3, 6-2.
