Tricky Team: Boys’ Lacrosse Blanks Notre Dame And Topples McMahon Behind Hat-Tricks

Newtown High School’s boys’ lacrosse team went on the road and shut out Notre Dame Prep of Fairfield 18-0 on April 24 before defeating host Brien McMahon of Norwalk 12-5 on April 26.

In the win over Notre Dame Nate Pickard had a double hat-trick performance with six goals to go along with an assist, Jack Meade had a hat-trick of his own, Marty Dunn had two goals and two assists, Nick Stockwell recorded a goal and two assists, Graham Spencer logged a trio of assists, Kyle June scored twice, Gavin Doyle had a goal and an assist, and Marcus Gerace added two assists. Luke Stewart, Billy Massett, John Scalfani, and Grayson Renkert all contributed points on goals or assists. Spencer recorded six ground ball scoops, and Pickard and Andrew Corey both had four ground balls. Goaltenders Andrew Faircloth and Finn Roach each made a save for the shutout.

In the McMahon game Owen Hannah had a hat-trick plus two, scoring five times, and Pickard had three goals and three assists to power the offense. Stockwell, Gerace, and Stewart all had two-point games, and Massett, Kyle Albrecht, and Dunn each contributed points. Spencer had seven ground balls and Cole Stockwell had four grounders. Faircloth made four saves.

The Nighthawks improved to 8-2 overall. The Hawks are home again Saturday, May 3, to host Trumbull at 7 pm for the 15 For Life game.
