Store Larceny

Police report they charged two employees of TJ Maxx at Sand Hill Plaza with sixth-degree larceny May 3.

Police said store security personnel observed Allison Favreau, 17, of 7 Indian Hill Lane, Sandy Hook, and Melissa B. Williams, 18, of Monroe stealing garments in the store. The value of the merchandise taken was less than $80, police said.

Police said they released Favreau and Williams on promises to appear May 17 in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.

DUI Charge

Police said they observed motorist Martin Prew, 41, of Bethel swerving while driving northbound on South Main Street and then on Main Street between Mile Hill Road and West Street about 1:30 am May 4.

Police said they stopped Prew on West Street and gave him field sobriety tests, which he failed. Police charged Prew with driving under the influence and failure to drive to the right.

After processing, Prew was released for a May 24 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Altercation

Police report they charged two local youths May 3 for their alleged involvement in an altercation with another person whom police did not identify.

Police charged Steven Santaniello, 18, of 2 Fox Hollow Lane with possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle. Police charged George W. Wurtz, 16, of 67 Alberts Hill Road with breach of the peace.

Police released the two youths for May 15 appearances in Danbury Superior Court.

Walnut Tree Hill Road

Police report that motorist Mary Harmonay, 37, of 19 Valley Field Road was driving a 1992 Dodge Caravan northbound on Walnut Tree Hill Road about 4:20 pm May 3 when the minivan went off the road, rolled down an embankment and went into a stream.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Harmonay to Danbury Hospital to be checked out, police said.

Two child passengers in the minivan were uninjured, police said. They were Smith Harmonay, 10, and Rachel Harmonay, 7, both of 19 Valley Field Road. Police said they are investigating the crash.

Warrants

Police report that while on patrol about 11 pm May 5, they found a man sitting in a vehicle on the dead-end Covered Bridge Road in Hawleyville and investigated.

Newtown police learned that Danbury, Bethel and New Milford police had outstanding arrest warrants on the man, Peter Thibodeau, 40, of Danbury. Newtown police took Thibodeau into custody, after which Danbury police came to Newtown and took him into custody.

Church Hill Crash

Motorist Sven Svensen, 71, of 10 Curry Drive was driving a 1990 Honda Accord eastbound on Church Hill Road near St Rose Church about 3 pm May 4 when he had to stop for traffic, police said.

Eastbound motorist Andrew J. Rouse, 16, of 14 Ashford Lane, who was driving a 2001 Honda Accord, failed to stop in time and struck the rear end of Svensen’s auto, police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Svensen to Danbury Hospital to be checked out for head and neck pain, police said.

Police issued Rouse an infraction ticket on a charge of failure to keep a reasonable distance.

Interstate Incident

State police report motorist Joseph T. Faulkner, 43, of Vernon was driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck eastbound on Interstate 84, east of Exit 9, about 2:30 pm May 6, when the left front tire came off the truck. Faulkner was uninjured, state police said.

Evading Responsibility

State police said motorist Douglas P. Bonjour, 51, of 23 Sleepy Hollow Road, Sandy Hook, was driving a 2000 Jeep Cherokee in the right lane on eastbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 10, about 2 am May 6, when an unknown vehicle, which had been traveling the left lane, changed lanes and hit the Jeep, causing it to spin out.

Bonjour was uninjured. State police are investigating.

 Moving Violations

Police said that while using radar on Wasserman Way about 5:30 pm May 7, they detected a vehicle going 54 miles per hour in a 30 mph zone. Police said they stopped the vehicle and investigated, charging motorist Ramon Rosado, 29, of Naugatuck with traveling too fast and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

After processing, police released Rosado on a $125 bond for a May 17 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Computer Theft

Police report that someone sometime between the afternoon of Saturday, May 5, and the morning of Monday, May 7, stole a Fujitsu Lifebook laptop computer from a vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence on Misty Vale Road in Sandy Hook.

Police ask anyone with information about the theft to contact them at the police station at 426-5841.

Sugarloaf Crash

Motorist Ryan M. Doheny, 20, of 73 Toddy Hill Road was driving a 1992 Ford Escort westbound on Sugarloaf Road about 3 am April 26 when the Ford went off the right side of the road and struck rocks and a tree and caught fire, police said.

Doheny got out of the auto before it became fully engulfed in flames, police said. Sandy Hook and Newtown Hook and Ladder firefighters went to the accident scene to put out the blaze, police said. The auto was a total loss.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Doheny to Danbury Hospital for treatment of arm and leg burns, police said.

Police said the accident is under investigation.

Jordan Hill

Police report a two-car accident on the morning of May 7 on Jordan Hill Road in Sandy Hook.

Police said motorist Paul B. Siecienski, 29, of Danbury was driving a 1997 Saturn SL-2 southbound and slowed to cross a one-lane bridge, when he was struck from behind by southbound motorist Paul A. Bernover, 45, of Brookfield, who was driving a 1996 Subaru legacy.

There were no injuries. Police said Bernover failed to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Radar Stop

Police report that while operating a radar speed unit about 5:30 pm May 7 on Wasserman Way, they found that motorist Ramon Rosado, 29, of Naugatuck was driving 54 miles per hour in a 30 mph speed zone. Police stopped Rosado and investigated, charging him with traveling too fast and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. Police released Rosado on a $125 bond for a May 17 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Disturbance

Police said they charged Louis Sahley, 41, of 108 Alpine Drive with creating a public disturbance on the night of May 9. Police said Sahley allegedly had yelled at and chased youths and adults near the intersection of Bancroft Road and Alpine Drive. Sahley is scheduled to appear in court May 18 to answer the charge.

 

Head-On Crash

Police said motorist William Robertson, 24, of 14 Mile Hill Road South was driving a 1998 Ford E-150 van westbound on Wasserman Way about 10 am May 6 and then attempted to turn left onto Mile Hill Road South, but in doing so had a head-on collision with a 1996 Jeep Cherokee driven by Earl H. Tesch, 68, of 6 Grand Place. There were no injuries, police said. Police issued Robertson infractions on charges of making an improper turn and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. Police gave Robertson a written warning for having an expired automotive emissions sticker.
