A Right Taken For Granted
A Right Taken For Granted
To the Editor:
I wish to write a brief letter expressing my great disappointment in our communityâs lack of voter participation in last weekâs election. Regardless of how one feels either way about the budget, it is incumbent upon all of our citizens to vote when we are asked to make decisions about the direction of our town. We make much of patriotism and democracy these days, in fact we are supposedly fighting a war across the globe to ensure that others might have the privilege to decide their own destiny, yet here in our own country and town, we seem to have taken this fundamental right for granted.
I would hope that people will take this right more seriously on the second round of voting scheduled for May 9. I would also like to urge people to consider what kind of town they want to live in. Do we want our parks and roads maintained and plowed, do we want a capable and well-paid police force, do we enjoy the services of an up-to-date library, and finally, do we want our children to have an educational system which prepares them for the global challenges ahead? If yes, please vote for the budget, which already barely suffices to cover all the things which we supposedly hold dear in this town.
Respectfully submitted,
Marina Moscovici
