Clam Bake Will Benefit Hospice Services

FAIRFIELD — It takes a lot of clams to support the many services provided to homebound patients, especially if they are under- or uninsured. But folks who want to help this worthy cause can enjoy a few clams themselves at an upcoming seaside event.

Visiting Nurse Services of Connecticut will host its 5th Annual Clam Bake from 6 to 9 pm, Wednesday, June 14, at Penfield II Pavilion on Fairfield Beach. The event will benefit the Hospice at Home and Medically Underserved Programs of VNS of CT.

“The Hospice and Underserved programs offered by the VNS are vital to the community,” said Stacey Scruggs, co-chair of the 2006 VNS Clam Bake. “The clambake is a great event that allows us to enjoy wonderful food and great company. At the same time, we celebrate the talents and dedication of the VNS staff, and raise funds for these two important programs.”

“This event is one which many of us look forward to each year,” added Patty Merola, the event’s other co-chair. “Spending a lovely June evening on the beach really launches the summer season.  We know that we’re supporting VNS programs, and that they provide much needed services to so many individuals and families.  That makes it an even more special evening.”

“The clam bake is a fun event that helps raise awareness and money for two important programs,” says Mary Ann O’Connor, vice president of planning and development of VNS. “We’re looking forward to a great turnout.”

This year’s event will feature food from Swanson’s Catered Clambakes of Fairfield, beer and wine from the Twisted Vine of Fairfield, a silent auction and a raffle with a variety of items. Tickets are $65 each and come with a choice of lobster, swordfish, rib-eye steak or chicken, with all the fixings.

A limited number of tickets are available. For information, call 203-368-5368 or email clarsen@vnsct.org.
