Dan Clement scored four goals as Newtown Senior Boys Blue upended Redding/Easton, 11-5, in the 2006 youth lacrosse season opener.

Lauren Meyer scored five goals for Senior Girls Blue, but unfortunately that wasn’t enough for a win.

Senior Boys Gold

Newtown 10, RELAX 5 – Jamie Bowers had a hat trick and Kyle O’Connor and Ben Mahony each had two goals and an assist to lead Newtown Senior Gold past Redding/Easton Lacrosse Black. Jeff DiNicola and Max Paynter each had a goal and an assist, Andrew Golankiewicz had a goal and Cam Gehrman and Dylan Heubner each had an assist. Andrew Hyland made six saves in goal as Chris Gregory and Kyle Vignone had strong defensive efforts.

Senior Boys Blue

Newtown 11, RELAX 5 – Dan Clement had four goals and Kevin Brown added two goals and an assist in the opening win for Newtown Senior Blue. Matt Grace made 12 saves in goal and was supported on defense by great play from Timo Roehrs and Andy Bouton. Tyler Davenport scored two goals, Michael Mouchantat and Doug Schafer each had a goal and an assist, and Dan Greenwood scored a goal. Ted Levine controlled faceoffs and played well at the midfield along with line mate Thomas DiLuoffo.

Senior Girls Gold

Newtown 7, Southbury ‘A’ 5 – Kaitlin Brophy scored three goals and Meghan Bridges added two to lead Newtown past Southbury. Lisa Vendel and Kara Brown also scored as goaltender Jill Jagoe stopped 13 tough shots in the cage. Kaitlin Brophy and Katie Canavan were solid in the midfield as Steph Suhoza, Annie Fletcher, Meredith Laperch, Sam Dinnan and Meghan Gibbons anchored the D.

Senior Girls Blue

Southbury 13, Newtown 7 – Lauren Meyer scored five goals but it wasn’t enough as Newtown fell to Southbury. Casey Kearns, and Evelyn Fahey also notched goals as Chelsea Boggs, Meaghan Loose, Nicole Gindraux, Luca Schmitt and Jamie Keating played very well on D. Meghan Rockwell stopped eight shots in the net.

Junior Boys Gold

Newtown 10, New Milford Silver 4 – Excellent ball movement and three goals from Trey Trudell helped Newtown notch its first win of the season in two tries. Colin Morris had four assists from his attack position. Matt Vavrek and Justin Brophy had two goals apiece as Dan Hebert and Phil Reynolds added solos. Kevin Dennis led the team in ground balls, while James Marusi and Chris Tenney anchored the defense in support of Justin Spath, who made 12 saves in the goal.

Junior Boys Blue

RELAX 12, Newtown 4 – Connor Quinn scored three goals and Parker Rodbell added one to lead Newtown in the loss. Nick Fatse and Jake Enriquez were each credited with an assist. Goalie Evan Isaacs recorded 18 saves. Tom Bauer and Graham Derrickson played well.

Ridgefield 5, Newtown 3 – Patrick Capozziello, Jacob Newton-Tanzer and Tom Bauer each scored a goal with assists from Mike Fitzsimons, Parker Rodbell and Capozziello in a loss to Ridgefield. Goalie Evan Isaacs notched 12 saves. Wyatt Depuy, Mike Greenwood and Art Fredericks looked great on defense.

Junior Girls Gold

Newtown 11, New Milford 3 – Rachel Hyland and Elizabeth Eiseman had a strong day on defense and provided solid support for goaltender Emma Glasrud, who had five saves and helped lead Newtown to the win. Alex Klein scored four goals while Meagan Knox added three and Kaitlin Vos Winkle chipped in two with an assist. Kelsey Packer also scored.

Senior Boys

Buckeyes 9, Badgers 7 – Jeff DiNicola scored three goals and had an assist, and the goaltending tandem of Michael Mouchantat and Kyle Vignone made five saves apiece to lead the Buckeyes to the win. Thomas Murphy had two goals and an assist and solo goals were scored by Evan Gilchrist, Chris Gregory, and James Radcliffe. For the Badgers, Tyler Davenport had three goals and an assist, Doug Schaefer and Dan Sclafani scored goals. Ben Mahony had two assists and combined with Lewis Thompson in goal, where each goalie had four saves.

Golden Gophers 11, Hawkeyes 7 – Will Northrop had four goals and three assists to pace the Gophers offense. Kyle O’Connor had three goals and an assist, and also played excellent long stick defense. Tim Dalton scored twice, and Ryan Korth and Dan Tomascak scored each scored a goal. For the Hawkeyes, Brandon Bennett and Thomas DiLuoffo each scored two goals and had one assist. Colby Summerlin scored one goal and assisted on another. Jon Cairns and Matt Genovese each scored goals. Cairns and Timo Roehrs split the goaltending duties, and each made six saves.

Wolverines 11, Spartans 8 – Cam Gehrman scored four goals and had two assists as the Hawkeyes flew to victory. Ryan Lasher scored two goals, and Ryan Bienkowski, Brandon Body, Brian Cantore, and Ted Levine each scored once for The Hawkeyes. Kevin O’Connell had four goals and one assist for the Spartans, and Max Paynter and Tyler Hardy each scored twice.

Junior Boys

Trojans 11, Wildcats 9 – Matthew Sharpe had three goals and an assist as the Men of Troy fought bravely for the victory. Matt Vavrek had two goals and made three saves in goal. Nick Fatse scored twice and had an assist. Ryan Brown had two goals and made four saves in goal. Colin Morris scored one goal and assisted on another. Colin Moller and Tyler Hanley each had an assist. For the ‘Cats, it was the Kevin Dennis and Griffin Paynter show. Dennis scored four goals and made six saves in goal, while Paynter scored three times and made five saves. Stefan Dullinger had two goals and an assist.

Ducks 9, Bruins 4 – Gabe Ruiz had three goals and two assists in the win. Wyatt Depuy scored two goals, and Will Fletcher scored once and added an assist. Michael Gallatin, Mike Greenwood, and Justin Spath scored goals, and Roland Stephen had an assist. Nick Pedalino and Nate Coleman each had four ground balls. For the Bruins, Patrick Capozziello had two goals and scooped up five ground balls. Dan Hebert and Stefan Hennessey each scored a goal. Stephen Rahr and Mason Page both played excellent field games, and Cory Fisher made four saves in goal.

Huskies 12, Golden Bears 10 – Justin Brophy had five goals, five ground balls, and an assist for the Dawgs. Trey Trudell scored two goals and added eight ground balls and an assist. Tom Bauer had a goal and made three saves in the nets. Jacob Newton-Tanzer had a goal and an assist. Brandon Cusmano, Keenan Bennett, and Brendan McNamara each had a goal. For the Bears, Michael Lord and Phillip Reynolds each had three goals and two assists. Chris Tenney had three goals. Jacob Locorotondo had a goal and six ground balls.
