Pelt Quartet

To Perform At Wooster School

DANBURY — The Jeremy Pelt Quartet – with Frank LoCrasto on piano and Fender Rhodes keyboard, Vicente Archer on bass, and E.J. Strickland on drums – will be the next concert sponsored by Wooster Jazz Society. The concert will be Friday, May 12, at 8 pm, in the Schwartz Reception Center at Wooster School, 91 Miry Brook Road.

Tickets are $25 for members of the jazz society, or $30 for non-member adults. Students will be admitted free of charge.

On May 12 we’ll have the opportunity to welcome and nurture another young, dynamic performer and composer to the Wooster Jazz Society venue in Danbury for an evening of intimate music-making: trumpeter Jeremy Pelt and the Jeremy Pelt Quartet. Hailed as a musician who plays with both heart and finesse, Mr Pelt has been an active part of the New York jazz scene — from small combos to the Mingus Big Band, and as both a leader and composer — since graduating in 1998 from Boston’s Berklee College of Music.

He was designated a Rising Star for two years in a row by both the Down Beat Annual Critics Poll and the Jazz Journalists Association, and won the ASCAP Young Composers Award.

As music critic Natt Hentoff wrote in the March 25, 2004, Wall St Journal: “It is the beat of Jeremy Pelt’s heart that … underscores the future of jazz. Deeply, searchingly lyrical….”

Reviewers have noted that Jeremy Pelt has it all: the jubilation of Clifford Brown, the lyricism of Miles Davis and the scorching fire of Lee Morgan, all in a voice completely his own — and he’s still under thirty. His recently-released CD, Identity, showcases his considerable composing skills.

Reservations are strongly suggested for the Danbury performance; call 830-3963.
