Pianist Gayle Martin Henry

Returning To East Hill Woods

SOUTHBURY — By popular demand, the classical pianist Gayle Martin Henry will perform at East Hill Woods, 611 East Hill Road. Ms Henry’s performance will be on Wednesday, May 10, at 7:15 pm.

A native of Texas, she came to New York at age 18 to attend Juilliard School where she won the prestigious Joseph Lhevine Prize at graduation. She achieved international prominence as the sole American Laureate of the sixth International Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in Moscow, only the third American woman ever to reach the finals.

She has performed with various Symphony Orchestras and has given solo concerts in Europe and China as well as extensively throughout the United States. Her vast experience has added maturity to her already acclaimed work.

One critic wrote of a performance: “Some areas required fire and ice, others a more delicate warmth. Henry let the tones soar from the piano, never lacking for generous splashes of emotion.”

Ms Henry is an expert technician who plays with sensitivity and passion. She can be poetic as well as tautly dramatic; easily steering a course between the classics and impressionism.

Her Tully Hall debut was sold out and with a strong Southbury following, organizers feel it is likely that the Auditorium at East Hill Woods will be full on Wednesday, May 10.

Her program at East Hill Woods will include selections from Beethoven, Chopin, Wagner and Liszt.

To make a reservation for the free concert, call East Hill Woods at 262-6161. Seating is limited.
