Walter S.       Parker, Jr

Walter Stephen Parker, Jr, 70, of South Windsor, beloved husband of Marjorie (Goodale) Parker, died May 4 at a local nursing home.

He is survived by a daughter, Doreen Carol Kostecki and her husband, Daniel, of Newtown.

Born in Hartford, son of the late Walter and Vivian (Sylvester) Parker, Mr Parker spent most of his life in South Windsor. Mr Kostecki served in the US Army during the Korean War and upon his discharge, he took a position with the Hartford Police Department. As a Hartford police officer, he served in the traffic division and retired after 35 years. During his time with the police department, Mr Parker also reported traffic on the radio from the Traveler’s Tower.

Mr Parker was an active member of the VFW Post in Hartford. An avid fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants, he also was a member of several bowling leagues and was a Little League coach in South Windsor for several years.

Besides his wife of 46 years and daughter, he is survived by two sons, Walter Stephen Parker, III, and his wife, Annemarie, of South Windsor; eight grandchildren, Joseph Parker and his wife Beth, Erin Kostecki, Ashley Parker, John Kostecki, Joshua Parker, Devin Parker, Danielle Parker, and Jason Kostecki; a sister-in-law, Frances Goodale; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Vivian Bergenholtz, and her husband, Donald.

Funeral services were held May 7 at Samsel and Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road in South Windsor. Burial followed in Wapping Cemetery in South Windsor.
