Prof Rusinko received a PhD in Russian Language and Literature from Brown University. Since 1988 she has been studying and writing about the Rusyn literature of Sub Carpathia and published articles in scholarly journals in the United States, Canada and Europe.
Her translation of the Rusyn ânational awakenerâ Aleksander Dukhnovychâs Virtue is More Important than Riches was published in 1994. Her own book, Straddling Borders: Literature and Identity in Subcarpathian Rus, a comprehensive history of Rusyn literature, appeared in 2003.
Prof Rusinko is active in the Rusyn movement, serving as vice president of the Carpatho-Rusyn Research Center Inc and vice president of the National Capital Chapter of the Carpatho-Rusyn Society. Since 1996 she has chaired the judging panel for the Aleksander Dukhnovych Prize for Rusyn literature, which is awarded annually to an author who has made a significant contribution to creative literature in the Rusyn language.
